The Design Process
Every Otto & Nibs commission is a collaboration built on artistry, care, and precision. From the first sketch to the final ribbon, each stage of our process is designed to feel effortless, personal, and exquisitely managed.
1. Booking and Deposit
Your journey begins with a booking. To reserve a place in our design calendar, a 50% non-refundable deposit of the quoted total is required. This secures your slot and allows us to prepare the next phase. The remaining balance is due before your stationery is sent to print.
2. Concept and Illustration
To start your design journey, you will receive an initial concept sketch — the first glimpse of your vision taking shape.
This is your opportunity to refine, adjust, and explore ideas until the design feels entirely yours.
Once approved, the full illustration and design work begins. Each composition is hand-drawn and painted with meticulous attention, inspired by the tone, setting, and story of your celebration.
Typical timeframe: Two to six weeks, depending on design complexity.
3. Proofing and Refinement
Proofing is where the artwork is polished and every word and illustration element finds its place.
We allow one to two working days for each set of amendments, and you are welcome to refine wording and layout until you are completely content.
Perhaps you have a late change in mind which veers quite far from what was initially asked, and that’s perfectly okay. Subtle colour adjustments are included within your proofs, and more substantial illustration changes can be arranged if required and are billed at our studio’s hourly rate.
Proofing timelines vary depending on how swiftly feedback is received, but our goal is always to move at your pace while maintaining excellence.
4. Print and Assembly
Once your final design is signed off, it moves to production.
Each piece is printed using fine papers, artisan techniques, and specialist finishes that elevate the work to a level of lasting quality.
Typical timeframes:
• Standard printing: seven to ten working days
• Foiling or letterpress finishes: around ten working days
Every element is then carefully assembled, inspected, and packaged in our studio before dispatch.
5. Delivery and Arrival
The arrival of your stationery is a moment to savour. Each parcel is carefully wrapped, securely packaged, and sent with full tracking details.
Delivery times:
• United Kingdom: one to two working days
• International: three to seven working days (excluding customs clearance)
Please allow for potential postal delays
International: please note that local taxes/tarrifs or customs fees may apply upon delivery, payable by the client.
A Tailored Experience
Our process is guided by care, precision, and a deep understanding of your vision. Every stage is carefully crafted to feel seamless and considered, from the initial consultation to the final delivery. When your stationery arrives, you will see that it is a piece of art, designed to reflect your story and treasured for years to come.
